SO, WE HAVE BEEN DABBLING, MY MOM WAS SINGLE WITH FOUR KIDS, I WAS THE OLDEST IN 1974, WENT TO MAN JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL , I DID NOT GRADUATE TO BUY A BUSINESS SO IT WILL BE 40 YEARS THIS YEAR , WE HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN ON A FUN JOURNEY THROUGHOUT THE YEARS ON RESTORING HISTORICAL PROJECTS , AND I THINK WE WERE INTO THAT FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS, AND I ALWAYS WANTED TO DO A PROJECT ON AN ISLAND, WANTED TO LOOK FOR THE RIGHT BUILDING . WHEN ABOUT THIS BUILDING I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS GETTING INTO , AS FAR AS WHAT I WAS GOING TO FIND. SO, IT WAS A REALLY REALLY FUN PROJECT. THE HISTORY OF THE BUILDING , I SEE FRANKLIN WINTERS WHICH ARE OUT THERE , IF YOU WOULD LIKE I CAN GO INTO A LOT MORE DETAIL OF THE HISTORY OF THE BUILDING , BUT THAT IS PRETTY MUCH COVERING THE BASICS. WHEN WE WERE TAKING UP THE DROP CEILING IN THEIR , WE FOUND ABOUT 14,000 FEET OF OUR

DECO PAINTING AND WE TOOK STENCILS AND COUPLE THE ORIGINAL PAINTING AND TOOK SEVEN MONTHS PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER. I HAVE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE, SO I DID NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT ALL YOU WANTED TO SEE, BUT THE BUILDING IS REALLY JUST BEAUTIFUL INSIDE, IT WAS MORE OF A PASSION PROJECT THAN ANYTHING, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS GOING TO TURN INTO. IN FACT THE CULTURAL ARTS FAIR ANYONE WHO USES IT IN TWO MONTHS -- SO WE CAN USE IT, I WAS NOT PLANNING ON IT THIS YEAR , BECAUSE I WAS HAVING SO MUCH FUN . BUT, THE CEILING FANS , THE ORIGINAL CEILING FANS ARE UP IN THE ATTIC , THE ONE THAT I ACTUALLY SENT TO FANS IN PENNSYLVANIA ACTUALLY CAST THE ORIGINAL CASTING TO MAKE THE 12 THAT ARE IN THERE NOW GOODNESS.

THE FLOORS WERE JUST BEAUTIFUL IN THEIR , THE GUY WHO HELPED GRIND THE CONCRETE FLOORS WOULD NOT TOUCH THOSE SO AT 3:00 IN THE MORNING I'M GRANTING THOSE FLOORS AND USING HIS EQUIPMENT AND IT TURNED OUT REALLY WELL. BUT, YEAH , I THINK A COUPLE OF THINGS I HAVE BEEN ASKED, WHEN THE BUILDING WAS BUILT IN 27 IT WAS ALL ARCHES ACROSS THE WHOLE BUILDING, AND NEVER HAD AN OPENING IN THE CORNER . AND, ACTUALLY, THE ARCHES WERE ETCHED GLASS THAT SAID BUICK ALL IN THE ARCHES GOING ALL THE WAY AROUND THE BUILDING. WHEN JESSE FRANKLIN WINTERS BOUGHT THE BUILDING THEY TOOK OUT SIX ARCHES , THEY ACTUALLY TOOK THE SIX ARCHES AND PUT FOUR OF THEM INSIDE THE BUILDING AND BLOCKED OFF AND MADE IT A DRIVE-THROUGH GAS STATION PIXEL, THAT WAS THE MW TIRE AND TEXACO GAS. THEY WERE CHANGING TIRES ON THAT TITLE FOR , AND FIXING CARS FROM 1931 TO 1951 . 51 IS WHEN HE SOLD IT TO THE EMPLOYEES , AND THAT IS WHEN I THINK I'M NOT SURE EXACTLY THE DATE ON WHEN THEY CLOSED IT , BUT IT WAS THE MW APPLIANCE, OR THE END W APPLIANCE BEFORE THE FURNITURE, SO WE THINK IN THE LATE 50S IS WHEN THEY ENCLOSED IT. I DO HAVE A PICTURE , THIS IS THE ONE I WAS WORRIED ABOUT LOSING .

SO, IT WAS THE MW TIRE OR FURNITURE SO, I FOUND ONE OF THOSE PICTURES TO SHOW THOSE SILVER TOWN TIRES ON THE OUTS THAT WAS PROBABLY 1936 I FOUND HAVE OF THAT SIGN WHENEVER WE DO GET THE SECOND FLOOR, IT'S IN THE BUILDING NOW, I KNOW WHERE THE OTHER FIRST HALF IS , IT IS ON BUTTERNUT, I'M HOPING TO FIND THE SECOND HALF OF IT . GOODNESS, IT JUST KEEPS GOING BACK THE FRONT WINDOWS , THE GLASS WAS THERE , AND IT WAS PAINTED OVER WITH NINE COATS OF PAINT. AND WHEN I WAS RESTORING THE GLASS I ACTUALLY FOUND THAT THE GLASS WAS ALSO GOLD-LEAFED. SO, THAT BUILDING ORIGINALLY HAD ALL OF THE ART DECO PAINTING, THE TILE FLOORS, GOLDLEAF ETCHED GLASS ALL THE WAY AROUND THE EDGES OF IT , AND WHEN THEY TOOK OUT SIX OF THE ARCHES , THEN THEY ENCLOSED IT. SO, COMMEMORATING BUICK IN ONE CORNER OF THE BUILDING, AND THE FLOORS AND CEILINGS AND THE FANS , THEN EVEN WHEN WE DID THE BAR AREA I DID NOT WANT TO REALLY DO A BAR, BUT I NEEDED TO DO SOMETHING TO FOLLOW THE ORIGINAL OFFICE TILE FLOORS.

THE ORIGINAL OFFICE FLOORS ARE IN SHAPE, THAT IS THE SHAPE OF THE PARTY MATCH THE FLOORS -- WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THE

HE ACTUALLY, BECAUSE OF THE ELECTRICAL PART OF THE SIGN THAT IS SO DESTROYED FROM HAILSTORMS THROUGH THE YEARS , HE ACTUALLY PUT NEON AROUND THE COCA-COLA EMBLEM AND WENT TO DONE I PULLED OPEN THE ON OFF AND PUT ON THE LIGHT AND REWIRED IT AND REDID THE WHOLE BACK , THAT WAS NINE MONTHS DOING THAT. SO, A LOT OF FUN. SO, THEN I FILLED THE BUILDING UP WITH ABILENE AND WEST TEXAS HISTORY IN NEON SIGNS SO, I HAVE THE ORIGINAL INSIDE THE BUILDING , THE SIGN THAT WAS ON THE ORIGINAL POWERPOINT WITH A NEW COURTHOUSES , THEN IT WAS MOVED TO WHERE THE CLIENT IS NOW, THE ONE THAT CLOSED DOWN IN THE 80S . I HAVE THE ORIGINAL NEON SIDE SIGN THAT WAS ON WALMART, I HAVE THE ORIGINAL MILK GLASS IN THERE FROM BIG LIGHT TEXAS WITH THE ORIGINAL STAND, THEN I HAVE A 6 FOOT TALL KILOWATT DOUBLE-SIDED NEON LIGHT , FOUND IN EASTLAND. SO, THAT IS RESTORED NOW SO PEOPLE CAN SEE IT. THERE'S STILL A LOT OF WORK TO DO, I NEED TO DO , RESTORE THE COVER WINDOW FRAMES ON THE FRONT WHERE THE GLASS IS , IT IS SOLD WITH THE AWNING OVER THE FRONT DOOR WITH A TINY LITTLE 30 INCH DOOR THAT IS ON THE SIDE , THEN A GUY TOLD ME THIS IS A PROJECT I WILL NEVER FINISH.
