I THINK THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL AND WONDERFUL SIGN OF HOW MUCH OUR COMMUNITY STEPS UP AND GIVES , AND VOLUNTEERS, AND GIVES WITH THEIR HEART . LORD, LET US CONTINUE TO GIVE FOR THE RIGHT REASONS AND CONTINUE TO MAKE OUR COMMUNITY BETTER. WE PRAY FOR THOSE THAT WERE AFFECTED BY THE TORNADO, THOSE THAT WERE INJURED, AND THOSE WHOSE HOMES WERE DAMAGED OR DESTROYED . LORD, HELP US STEP UP AGAIN. OUR COMMUNITY IS STRONG. WE KNOW WE WILL BE ABLE TO HELP THOSE THAT WERE INJURED OR THAT HAD THEIR HOMES DAMAGED. HELP THEM RECOVER BOTH EMOTIONALLY AND MENTALLY AND FINANCIALLY. WE ALSO THANK YOU FOR PROTECTING OUR CITY AND EVERYONE ELSE FROM THE HORRORS OF THE TORNADO. WE HAVE TERMINAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS THAT ARE COMPLETED LATE LAST YEAR. THERE ARE ALWAYS THINGS EVOLVING. WE ARE TRYING TO IMPROVE THE SERVICES. WE ARE IN THAT SEASON WHERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN MOVE INTO THE DFW AREA, AND WE WILL GET SLAMMED WITH DIVERSIONS WE HAVE HAD. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME, BUT WE'VE HAD THAT MANY IN THE TERMINAL BEFORE. IT MAKES FOR AN INTERESTING EVENING. STAFF IS VERY GOOD ABOUT COMING TOGETHER. PEOPLE COME IN AND TAKE CARE OF THOSE PASSENGERS AS BEST WE CAN. OUR GOAL IS TO IMPROVE SERVICE TO OUR CITIZENS AND DO THAT IN AS SUFFICIENT -- EFFICIENT AND COST EFFECTIVELY AS POSSIBLE.

NOW, MORE THAN EVER, THE INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY HAS BECOME THE LINE BETWEEN HAVES AND HAVE-NOTS. WE WANT TO MAKE ABILENE A GIGABYTE CITY. WE HAVE INVESTED MORE THAN $29 MILLION IN OUR INFRASTRUCTURE AND INSTALLED FIBER LINES.

40,000 RESIDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO FIBER INTERNET. I WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT VEXUS EMPLOYEES THAT ARE HERE TODAY. THEY ALL PLAYED A LARGE ROLE IN BRINGING THIS TO THE RESIDENCE. SO AS THEY COME DOWN, I WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT THIS TROPHY TO YOU. I CAN'T THINK THE CITY OF ABILENE AND THE RESIDENCE OF ABILENE FOR SUPPORTING US IN ROLLING OUT THESE SERVICES.

AND THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO SOLVE ALL THE WORLDS PROBLEMS BY YOURSELF, BUT YOU WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM. THE EVENT STARTED BACK IN 2003 WHEN A NATIONALLY RANKED CYCLIST IN THE DALLAS AREA , LARRY SCHWARTZ WAS OUT RIDING WHEN A DALLAS SCHOOL BUS HIT HIM AND KILLED HIM, UNFORTUNATELY. A NUMBER OF HIS FRIENDS WANTED TO HAVE SOMETHING IN HIS HONOR AFTER THE FUNERAL, SO JUST BY WORD-OF-MOUTH, SINCE, IF YOU CAN IMAGINE, NO SOCIAL MEDIA AND ALL OF THAT -- 21 YEARS AGO, THEY PUT THE WORD OUT AND 1000 CYCLISTS SHOWED UP TO RIDE IN HIS HONOR. FROM THAT EVENT IT HAS GROWN STATEWIDE, NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY TO WHERE IT'S NOW IS IN THREE OTHER COUNTRIES BUT IT'S ON FIVE CONTINENTS. IT'S IN PRETTY MUCH EVERY STATE IN THE UNITED STATES. IT IS HELD THE THIRD WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH DURING NATIONAL BICYCLE MONTH IN MAY. WE WILL HAVE IT COMING THIS WEEK, MAY 15TH, 7:00 P.M.. PHIL CRAWLEY WILL HAVE OPENING REMARKS, AND THEN WE WRITE A SHORT FIVE MILE ROUTE IN SOUTH ABILENE IN SILENCE IN HONOR OF THOSE WHO HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES IN CYCLING CRASHES. THERE HAVE BEEN 12 INDIVIDUALS KILLED ON OUR ROADWAYS AND ABILENE, UNFORTUNATELY, AND SO TO JUST MAKE AWARENESS TO BE SAFE OUT THERE. THERE ARE A LOT OF INDIVIDUALS THAT RIDE BIKES TO AND FROM WORK. WE SEE IT ALL THE TIME. AS LISA SAID, WE NEED TO PUT OUR PHONES DOWN AND BE CAREFUL ON THOSE ROADWAYS. I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE.

WE SO MUCH APPRECIATE THIS SPORT . SHE HELPS OUT, AND WE APPRECIATE MURRAY ALLOWING US TO HAVE THE EVENT AT THEIR LOCATION. AND THE POLICE FOR OFFERING THEIR ESCORT SERVICES.

THE CITY OF ABILENE VOTED TO BUILD THIS MANY YEARS AGO. IT ORIGINALLY OPENED IN 1970 , 54 YEARS AGO. WE HAVE 95,000 SQUARE FEET OF FLOOR SPACE . IT IS A WONDERFUL FACILITY. IT IS BUILT VERY WELL. THE CHALLENGE OF THE FACILITY IS THAT IT IS 54 YEARS OLD AND HASN'T HAD SIGNIFICANT INFRASTRUCTURE REHABILITATION IN THAT PERIOD. SO HOW HAVE THINGS CHANGED SINCE 1970? WELL, ONE, WE BUILT THAT BUILDING FOR $36.08 PER SQUARE FOOT. THAT IS A PRETTY BIG CHANGE. IN THE ARTICLE I CLIPPED THIS FROM ON THE SCREENSHOT, CHRISTIANS, WHICH WAS A SHOPPING DEPARTMENT STORE IN ABILENE HAD SUITS FROM $36.
