THE REQUEST IS THE APPROPRIATENESS TO REPLACE THE ROOF AS WELL AS PAINTING THE EXTERIOR WINDOW TRIM AT 2241 COLLEGE STREET. THE HAWKINS HOUSE IS A ONE-STORY FRAME RESIDENCE AND EXHIBITS THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS. A LINEAR PLAN WITH THREE OFFSET HANGERS EXTENDING OVER THE FRONT PORCH AND BREAKFAST ROOM.

WITH TAPERED CAPITAL TO SUPPORT THE ROOF AND PORCH. THE ORIGINAL FRONT DOORS, NO ADDITIONS OR MAJOR ALTERATIONS ARE NEEDED. WE HAVE ATTACHED THE LOCATION MAP. AND THE AERIAL MAP. AS WELL AS THE ZONING MAP. IT IS OWNED SINGLE-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL. HERE WE HAVE SOME CURRENT PHOTOS OF THE SUBJECT PROPERTY. THERE IS A PHOTO OF THE PROPOSED SHINGLES. THEY ARE ESSENTIALLY THE SAME THAT ARE ON THE ROOF NOW. HERE ARE SOME PHOTOS OF THE EXISTING TRIM COLOR. THE WINDOWS WERE JUST THE GREAT AND HE HAD PAINTED THE INSIDE FRAME ACCORDINGLY. IT WAS APPROVED TO PUT BURGUNDY ON THERE. BEFORE HISTORIC OVERLAY, IT WAS ALL JUST GRAY WHICH IS ATTACHED IN THE PHOTO. STAFF REVIEWED THIS PURSUING FOR THESE STANDARDS OF REVEALED THAT HE SHOULD. IF REVIEWED IT REQUIRES THAT THE WORK APPROVED IN THE CERTIFICATE SHALL COMMENCE WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF THE APPROVAL OF THE LANDMARKS

THE SUBJECT RESIDENCE WAS BUILT AS A SINGLE STORY STRUCTURE WITH A STUCCO VENEER. A RECTANGULAR PLANE AND FRONT DOOR WITH EXPOSED RAFTER ENDS. A ROUND FROM PORCH THAT IS PERPENDICULAR TO THE STREET AND TAPERED BOX SUPPORTS INCLUDING STUCCO PEDESTALS. INCLUDING THE DETACHED GARAGE AND SHED. THE SUBJECT PROPERTY IS LOCATED ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER AS A DISTRICT CONTRIBUTOR AND THE PROPERTY IS ALSO LOCATED ON THE ABILENE REGISTRY OF HISTORIC PROPERTIES. HERE WE HAVE ATTACHED THE AERIAL LOCATION MAP. AS WELL AS THE ZONING MAP AND THE ZONES WHICH ARE RESIDENTIAL. AND HERE WE HAVE SOME CURRENT VIEWS OF THE SUBJECT PROPERTY. I BELIEVE THEY ARE FROM THE EARLY 90S. THAT IS THE MOST HISTORIC ONE ON FILE. I HAVE REVIEWED THIS AND THE CRITERIA WILL BE ESTABLISHED IF THE CONSERVATION DISTRICTS AND STRUCTURES, BUILDINGS, PROPERTIES AND OBJECTS WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES EXHIBIT ONE OR MORE OF THE CHARACTERISTICS.

I'M TRYING TO TALK MY HUSBAND INTO MOVING TO ABILENE. IN THE MEANTIME, I'VE BEEN WORKING TO RESTORE IT. IT HAS FIVE ROOMS WITH BEAUTIFUL WOOD FLOORS THAT HAD TO BE RE-STANDARD AND RE-STAINED AND HAS A LOT OF THE ORIGINAL MATERIALS INSIDE. I WAS A LITTLE CONCERNED ABOUT THAT ADDITION. IT HAS THE SAME STUCCO EXTERIOR AS THE REST OF THE HOUSE. I THINK WITH ALL THE ORIGINAL MATERIALS AND CHARACTERISTICS THAT STILL ARE INSIDE THE HOUSE, THAT ADDS TO THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF ITS ATTRIBUTES. AND MAKES IT AN EXCELLENT ADDITION TO THE HISTORICAL DISTRICT. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE OWNER. I PUT A PICTURE THERE. HE WAS A PREACHER. REVEREND JACOB PRICKETT. HE SPENT HIS LIFE PREACHING AND GOING TO DIFFERENT CHURCHES IN WEST TEXAS. I REALLY THOUGHT HE WAS AN INTERESTING PERSON. HIM AND HIS WIFE ONLY LIVED IN ABILENE FOR 15 YEARS. WHEN HE CAME, IN 1921 AS THE PASTOR OF -- LET ME

FIND MY NOTES. IN 1921 HE WAS THE PASTOR OF SOUTHSIDE BAPTIST CHURCH AND SERVED AT THE UNIVERSITY BAPTIST CHURCH. HE HELPED THEM WITH THEIR CONSTRUCTION PHASE AT THE TIME.

I FOUND THIS TO BE REALLY INTERESTING. I SAW HIS NAME ON A TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKER AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH IN COLORADO. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO IN ABILENE. ON THE MARKER ITSELF IT SAID THAT PASTOR JC PRICKETT HAD 150 ON THE ROLL AT THAT CHURCH. AT THE SWEETWATER BAPTIST ASSOCIATION. LET ME SEE. THEY WANTED TO DO A CHARTER. AND THEY WERE ON THE -- WAIT A MINUTE, LET ME SEE. I'M IN THE WRONG PARAGRAPH.

YES. THIS CHURCH WHICH WAS THE CHURCH IN COLORADO CITY WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF THE SWEETWATER BAPTIST ASSOCIATION THEY IMPLEMENTED A CHARTER FOR SIMIANS COLLEGE. ALSO I FOUND IN THE ABILENE NEWSPAPER, NOVEMBER 1ST, 1936, IT WAS TALKING ABOUT HENDRICK MEDICAL CENTER AND SOME ANNIVERSARY, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. IT MENTIONED HIM ON THE BUILDING COMMITTEE AND HIS CONGREGATION THAT HE WAS PASTOR OF AT THE TIME. WHEN THEY STARTED PLANNING AND THE WEST BAPTIST SANITARIAN, HE LED THE CONGREGATION WHOLEHEARTEDLY THAT WERE INVOLVED IN THIS. THE OTHER PICTURE I HAVE IS A PICTURE OF HIS SON, HE GRADUATED FROM SIBLINGS AND WAS A NAVY PILOT AND AN OFFICER DURING WORLD WAR I. I FOUND THIS TO BE INTERESTING TOO. HE WAS INVOLVED IN MAPPING FROM SAN FRANCISCO TO ALASKA AND THOSE ARE STILL USED TODAY.

THERE IS A MOUNTAIN IN ALASKA NAMED AFTER HIM CALLED THE BRIQUETTE. UNFORTUNATELY, HE WAS IN A TRAINING FLIGHT IN 1930 AND HE DIED IN A CRASH. HE WAS AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS METAL. IN SUMMARY, I THINK THAT THE HOUSE HAS CHARACTERISTICS AND CONTRIBUTES A LOT TO THE HISTORICAL DISTRICT. I THINK THESE TWO INDIVIDUALS DO AS WELL. EUGENE IS A VETERAN THAT LIVED HERE IN ABILENE. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM AS WELL AS HIS FATHER BEING RECOGNIZED. THEY CONTRIBUTED AND MAYBE THEY DID NOT HAVE A LOT OF MONEY. THEY WERE NOT IN THE FOREFRONT BUT THEY WERE IN THE BACKGROUND AND THEY CONTRIBUTED A LOT TO PEOPLE AND DIFFERENT THINGS THAT I HAVE READ, YOU CAN TELL THAT ESPECIALLY THE PASTOR AND EUGENE WERE VERY WELL THOUGHT OF.
