IT'S NOT A GREAT PLACE FOR MOM TO BRING A KID BECAUSE THERE'S NOT A SHALLOW END LIKE THIS. WE STARTED DOWN THIS ROAD WITH SOFTBALL AND THEN KIND OF TOOK A PAUSE TO LET BASEBALL CATCH UP WITH SOFTBALL. THE PARKS BOARD ABOUT EIGHT MONTHS AGO APPOINTED A TASK FORCE TO BRING RECOMMENDATIONS BACK TO PARKS BOARD ON POTENTIAL RECOMMENDATIONS EITHER TO PARKS BOARD OR CITY COUNCIL. JOSH WAS ONE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE TASK FORCE AND IS HERE TO PRESENT THEIR FINDINGS.

IT'S LOSING ITS NUMBERS AND THE MOVEMENT IS TOWARDS TRAVEL BALL. OR SELECT BALL. THAT FORMAT IS PLAYERS GO PLAY ON THE WEEKEND, THEY GET THERE ON FRIDAY, THEY PLAY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. PLAY FOUR, FIVE GAMES. AND THESE KIDS ARE TRAVELING, LEAVING ABILENE, TEXAS AND TRAVELING ALL OVER THE STATE TO PLAY IN TOURNAMENTS. WE FEEL LIKE THERE'S A NEED TO RETAIN THOSE KIDS. KEEP THEM HERE. WE THINK THERE'S ABOUT 50 SELECT TEAMS RIGHT NOW. THOSE GROW EVERY YEAR. RANGING FROM 8 TO 18 YEARS OLD. SO THE NEED IS THERE. AND THEY'RE LEAVING EVERY WEEKEND THESE KIDS START PLAYING ABOUT MARCH, THEY START TRAINING IN JANUARY. START PLAYING ABOUT MARCH. MANY INTO THEIR LAST TOURNAMENT IN NOVEMBER. THESE KIDS ARE ALMOST PLAYING YEAR ROUND. THERE'S A NEED AND DEMAND THERE. WE LOOKED AT OUR CURRENT FACILITIES. CITY-OWNED FACILITIES. LITTLE LEAGUE.
LEGACY LITTLE LEAGUE. COULD WE UTILIZE THOSE. AT THE END OF THE DAY THE ANSWER WAS NO. I DON'T THINK. THEY'RE TOO SPREAD OUT. THEY'RE TOO DIFFERENT. THE SIZES ARE DIFFERENT. BASED OFF THE NEEDS OF THE AGE OF THE TOURNAMENT.
THE KIDS THAT ARE PLAYING IN TOURNAMENT. TWO SPREAD OUT.
MAINTAINED DIFFERENTLY. THEY'RE CROSSING OVER WITH OUR LOCAL LEAGUES AND IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO MANAGE. WE SAID WE'LL MOVE ON FROM THAT AND IT WAS OVERWHELMINGLY SAID YES, WE NEED TO BUILD A FACILITY. WE NEED TO BUILD A NEW FIELD TO ACCOMMODATE THIS TOURNAMENT. ECONOMIC IMPACT WE SAID WHAT'S IT GOING TO DO. WE DID A LITTLE HIGH LEVEL LOOK AT WHAT IT IS.

[7. Seniors Report (Discussion) • Turkey Trot • Thanksgiving Breakfast • Jolly Jingle Jam Fundraiser]
ARE WORKING ON FITNESS OVER AT THE SENIOR CENTER. SO WE ARE HAVING A COMPETITION THAT IS GOING ON NOW FOR WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE MOST FITNESS CLASSES AND YOU WILL WIN A THANKSGIVING BASKET. SO WE HAVE GENTLE FITNESS, CHAIR YOGA, DRUMBA, WALKING CLUB. SO EVERY TIME THEY PARTICIPATE THE INSTRUCTOR SIGNS OFF ON IT. IT HAS BECOME A REALLY BIG COMPETITION AROUND THERE. TRYING TO WORK ON GETTING EVERYBODY MOVING AND USING OUR MUSCLES SO WE DON'T LOSE THEM.IT'S BEEN REALLY FUN. THEY'RE GETTING REALLY COMPETITIVE. I HEARD THEM TRASH TALKING THE OTHER DAY AND I WAS LIKE WE GOT TO STILL BE NICE TO PEOPLE. THEY CAN STILL JOIN. WE ARE GETTING READY FOR OUR THANKSGIVING BREAKFAST TOMORROW. IT WILL BE STARTING AT 9:30 AND THE SENIORS WILL COME AND HAVE BREAKFAST. IT'S A NICE TREAT INSTEAD OF LUNCH.

QUICK ANIMAL UPDATE. WE HAD TO SAY GOOD-BYE TO SUNRIS. HE'S VERY GENETICALLY VALUABLE AND OUR FACILITY IS NOT SET UP FOR CUBS JUST YET. I HOPE TO HAVE THAT SET UP IN THE FUTURE. SO PER OUR AZA ACCREDITATION, SORT OF THE MATCH MAKERS OF JAGUARS TOLD US WE NEED TO HAVE HIM GO TO A BREEDING FEMALE. SO HE WENT TO L.A. ZOO. WE'LL BE RECEIVING A FEMALE, RETIRED FEMALE. WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE HER BY NOW. UNFORTUNATELY THEY HAD ISSUES WITH HER GOING INTO HER CHUTE FOR TRANSFER. SO WE SHOULD RECEIVE HER IN THE NEXT WEEK OR TWO. WE'LL HAVE A JAGUAR. JUST GOING THROUGH A LITTLE BIT OF A TRANSFER. WE'RE GOING TO PUSH OUT A PRESS RELEASE ON THE GIRAFFE. SHE'S SHOWN GERIATRIC SIGNS OF AGING. THE AVERAGE LIFE SPAN OF A GIRAFFE IN CAPTIVITY IS 18 TO 20. SHE'S PASS THIS. SHE'S APPROXIMATELY A 100-YEAR-OLD FEMALE IN HUMAN TERMS. WE WANT TO GIVE OUR COMMUNITY AN UPDATE. SHE PROBABLY ONLY HAS A YEAR, COUPLE YEARS LEFT IN HER. SHE'S STILL ON DISPLAY. YOU MIGHT SEE A LIMP HERE. SHE'S GOT ARTHRITIC ISSUES IN HER HINDQUARTERS. BOO AT THE ZOO WAS A HUGE SUCCESS. WE HAD A PUMPKIN CARVER. WE HAD A NICE PRESENTATION AND THAT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS. WE HAD A RECORD ATTENDANCE. HERE'S A COMPARISON OF PREVIOUS YEARS. THE GREEN MEANS WE'VE ATED A COUPLE MORE DAYS TO BOO AT THE ZOO. WE HAD A STINT BECAUSE THE LAST WEEKEND GOT RAINED AND COLD OUT. THIS YEAR WAS PERFECT WEATHER. WE HAD CLOSE TO 23,000 GUESTS IN SIX DAYS. SO HUGE SUCCESS. RECORD ATTENDANCE AND REVENUE FOR THE ZOO. COMING UP NEXT IS OUR CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION FESTIVAL. THIS IS A FUNDRAISING EVENT AS WELL.
